How batteries will change the way we live.

How batteries will change the cycle of our history.

The battery is part of today’s future of mobility, the basic component in our mobile devices and electric vehicles. One day electric vehicles will take the place of today’s most common method of transport, the petrol or diesel engine. Until then we need progress, innovation and better solutions for a future in which electricity is our main energy source. For that we need better batteries.

Better batteries to transport us longer distances and by more methods.

Better batteries to keep power on in our homes, workplaces and streets.

Better batteries for all our devices, maintaining efficiency and productivity.

Better batteries matter greatly to our development as a civilisation. We need them to move forward to the next level. Mobility is part of our livelihood: the ability to communicate with someone whenever and wherever we want, and the mobility of information so we can find or share it when needed. Where there is mobility, there is a solution suited to a particular need. Whenever someone needs immediate help, a mobile device with enough battery could always be available to contact someone.

With better batteries our civilisation’s development could be stronger than ever, with changes unimaginable to us now, affecting us at different stages of human history. A better battery marks the start of a wireless, mobile era in which things can connect to the internet and batteries can be charged wirelessly everywhere.

When these newly developed batteries arrive, it could be a turning point in history, remembered as the turning point of the century: the moment of the better battery, when we advanced our technological development.

Our way of life will improve in many areas: work, private life, industry and developing countries.

Your work will be more mobile, without limits on where you can work. Private life will be a little easier because your electric vehicle needs charging less often and charges very quickly. Devices will also need charging less often and can stay away from a power source longer than is normal today, with portable chargers as well.

We may not notice this change in our way of life because better batteries develop slowly. For consumers development may seem slow; for scientists it is part of a push for growth, and growth takes time. Growth brings opportunities that make people satisfied. When people are satisfied, doors open: doors to a future with better mobility and better batteries.

Let us look at some technologies we have today and ask:

Where is a better battery needed? What happens with a better battery?

I have written some notes on what I think will happen to different technologies.

Mobile devices:

Smartwatches

Smartphones

Tablets

Laptops

With better batteries we will need to charge our devices less often. Mobile devices will simply last longer, which matters to us. What else might happen? Imagine smart batteries, batteries able to “think”.

Transport:

Cars

Scooters

Bicycles

Boats

With a better battery we could travel longer distances without charging as often. More people would adopt electric transport, benefiting the environment and climate.

The benefits are:

Travel over longer distances

Good for the environment and climate

We would also see new areas of motorsport: the electric answer to Formula 1, which has already begun, electric bicycle races, electric motorcycles and more innovative vehicles as they are developed.

Boats are coming into the world of electric transport. This will take longer because large boats need a lot of power, but they are coming.

Other areas:

Power tools

Cameras

Light sources

Drones

Internet of Things devices

Home products become more mobile with batteries and wireless charging, as do the other electrical devices around us. Portable devices suddenly become more efficient, enough to improve quality in our homes and workplaces.

It is a time: the beginning of our days with better batteries.

Better batteries will let us take another step towards better mobility.

And one less worry about running low on battery.
